John F. Kennedy Tours Space Program (1962) - 3 min

J.F.K. tours a number of facilities around the U.S. connected with the development of the space program. Highlights include a visit with Werner Von Braun, and tours of Cape Canaveral & Houston as well as views of the Mercury and Gemini space capsules. President Kennedy took a big gamble early in his presidency when he announced the goal of sending a man to the moon and returning him to earth. From this auspicious beginning the space program took off and captured the imagination of the entire nation. Even being named an astronaut made one in instant here, even before going into space.
